List When the XBox One launched, Killer Instinct was one reason to get it over the PlayStation 4. Dead Rising 3 was the other. Both games provide intense fighting experiences that appeal to wide audiences with their immediately-impressive visuals and effects. Both are a riot to play with friends, but the main difference is that one is head-to-head (Killer Instinct), while the other is co-op (Dead Rising 3).

Blood And Concrete

Some, however, may not be into the stressful encounters of head-to-head fighting, which is where Dead Rising 3 came along. Its human or AI multiplayer options are appealing even to the recluse game player, but Dead Rising 3's enemy-thrashing co-op multiplayer couldn't be beat, though. The only thing that even came close to it was Capcom's other co-op blast, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate that came out in the Wii U's infancy. Nothing on the PlayStation 4 really even compared at the beginning of its lifecycle, and nothing really even compares now (a few years later). Dead Rising 3 started with two playable characters; Nick and Dick, who are struggling to survive the swift onslaught of a zombie apocalypse with a handful of the living who still remain.

They join with Nick and Dick to make four to six-survivor crews (just like first and second games in the series). Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition (which is actually Dead Rising 3 Untold Stories of Los Perdidos) adds four new playable characters to the fold, each with backgrounds and stories that are integrated seamlessly into the hell Nick fought through in the original edition of the game. The additional characters include an anti-hero mercenary, a tragic beauty, a sweaty biker, and a special agent. Each of them take different paths through the game, and some are even taken through previously inaccessible areas. These paths all vary in length (with some being longer than others), and they're even packed with unique objectives determined by the alignment and background of the character. These objectives (which include survivor eradication in some cases) are unique to their characters (who may be enemies to Nick and his crew), so there is very little overlapping.

In fact, some characters are in the game's locales at different times than others, with some entering the fray earlier than Nick's arrival, and some later. You'll see bosses reclaiming their places in their respective organizations before Nick's arrival, carrying out nefarious plans and going rogue during Nick's struggles, and even arriving to the absolute chaos following Nick's departure. We even get a chance to see a Punisher-inspired survivor connected to a survivor Nick saves. Six is a solid number of playable fighters when we consider how the average number for the side-scrolling fighting genre (not the side-scrolling adventure genre seen in Dynasty Warriors) is four characters. The branching paths, weapons, and items make it even better, and this isn't even including the even larger roster in the Super Ultra Dead Rising 3' Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha! That title cannot possibly be contained by anything less than its own, devoted tribute.
