Thankfully, Capcom more waiting in the wings of single-player.
Just like the excitement of seeing the portraits of the "Final Four"
bosses appear on the world map in SFII, or the shock of being interrupted
by a challenge from one of the three hidden bosses in SFA, M. Bison's
super-sexy-soldier Dolls were SFA3's surprise, and Capcom made the awesome
decision to grace us with their presence in SFV. In addition to the unlockable
playable characters from the Street Fighter Alpha 2, there are also the
unplayable "Dolls" from Street Fighter Alpha 3. Zeku and Abigail
were eventually available for unlock, but all of the Dolls are unplayable.
While incredibly unfortunate, it was really cool to see Capcom give us
some Street Fighter Alpha 3 love with a decision like this. I was always
disappointed by the complete and utter lack of publicity concerning all
of the cool characters in Street Fighter V from the smash hit Street Fighter
Alpha 3, though. I didn't see them mentioned anywhere at all. Some have
even said that Juli, Abel, Decapre, and other characters are not in the
game, but clearly we can see here that they are. And it's not just the
fake fact games media who's at fault.
Capcom didn't promote their own game correctly. SFA3 was
a very successful game for them. Why wouldn't they use characters and
things from that game that are in SFV to their advantage for marketing?
They didn't use SFV's strengths to promote it. These are iconic characters
from an era of the series that people love, yet they were nowhere to be
found in their promotional material or footage. The Dolls in general weren't
even promoted! This was a really wasted opportunity, considering their
design variations are cooler and more creative than most characters in
the game. There's even one that quickly turns into a Karin rival, with
her curls and similar laugh. The Dolls were one of SFA3's most characteristic
traits, and it was great to see them in SFV. This, I thank Capcom for,
and I believe it was one of their best SFV roster decisions. And these
designs couldn't be more suited to Capcom's recent fear of SJW outrage,
striking a happy medium with tightly-revealing, yet fully-clothed outfits.
To their credit, this is proof that a character can be sexy (even slutty)
without revealing costume design.
