PLAYSTATION 4 BAD MARVEL VS CAPCOM INFINITE

Marvel VS Capcom Infinite is arguably the most polarizing entry in the series. Its failure was in part due to its release upon a scene that preferred more to keep breaking Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 more than it already was. Social media and the hidden hands of video game "journalism" did more damage than the fighting game scene, though, with a whole lot of nobodies with talking a whole lot of non-sense. In their never-ending hypocrisy, critics and mainstream drones have idealized Marvel VS Capcom 2 in an effort to derail and dethrone Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. Many of the things they criticize Marvel VS Capcom Infinite for were also present in Marvel VS Capcom 2 in some way, shape, or form. Now, don't get me wrong; I love MVSC2 (and always have), but I acknowledge its flaws, and I'm not weaponizing those flaws in a double-standard to bash MVSCI. To do such would be hypocrisy, which is exactly what's happening in the media representation of MVSCI.

Marvel VS Capcom 2 is effectively being idealized to bring Marvel VS Capcom Infinite down. Normally, I don't compare games from different hardware or graphics engines to be fair, but my hand is being forced (once again) by critics with unfair criticisms. In fact, critics created the circumstances that led to the very parts of the games they criticize, which is definitely the case with MVSCI. Marvel VS Capcom Infinite is a great game, though. It would be better if it had dedicated endings for Arcade Mode, but it doesn't, and to be fair, Marvel VS Capcom 2 really didn't, either. Both have credit roll sequences at the end, but MVSC2's had cryptic, story board-type illustrations. It can be considered an ending, but neither game has dedicated endings for each character (or team) like past VS games did. Another criticism leveled at MVSCI is how "boring" it is, which has been attributed to its more detailed, realistic graphical style and fighting locales. Funny, because MVSC2 was criticized for its visuals, too. At the time, the very same critics didn't like its "jagged" sprites because they were "recycled" from other Capcom games. Yet, somehow now those very sprites have somehow become timeless to a media who once criticized it with such vitriol that it was taken as gospel.

Of course, this only became the case when all of that could be changed around, idealized, and weaponized to fuel the mob mentality behind internet-wide overreactions to the way Chun-Li's face looked in the beta version of MVSCI. It didn't look bad at all, but when one popular YouTuber or other Internet source says something, its drones are sure to follow. The same "tolerant" mob wasn't content with that, though, and proceeded to start even more unwarranted controversy about Dante's appearance. This seemed especially stupid, considering how Dante has always looked campy and ugly (especially in the very first Devil May Cry). More importantly, have any of these critics even seen what Dante looked like in early screens of Devil May Cry 4 when it was PlayStation 3 exclusive?! He looked terrible beyond words. Characters were basically criticized as a whole in MVSCI, though, but critics only have themselves to blame. The old costumes in MVSC2 were absolutely better, but you eventually get accustomed to the new ones.

If you just consider the costumes and character design in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite to be a natural evolution of Marvel's brand (just as the costumes evolved in the comics even before the Marvel Cinematic Universe), then it's easier to accept. As a loyal fan with roots firmly planted in the 90s era costumes from MVSC2, even I was able to get used-to the new generation of costumes in MVSCI. Critics are the very ones responsible for the more realistic look they hate in MVSCI, though. Critics, in their support of these Marvel movies, are the very ones to blame for their own maniacal criticism of Marvel VS Capcom Infinite's movie-inspired costumes. Their overwhelming idealization and support of Marvel movie tripe is likely why Marvel VS Capcom Infinite doesn't look like previous titles. Funny, because the ones I hear saying that MVSCI "looks like shit" are huge supporters of the Marvel movies (which truly look like shit). Am I the only one who sees the double-standards here?
