Over time, I came to notice that there's be a character (or two) from each "Season" in each tier. At one time, I recall Karin ("Season 1"), Akuma ("Season 2"), and Abigail ("Season 3") all in top tier. This may seem trivial to some, but those who can read behind the lines see a possibly connection to the increasing Socialization of video games being pushed by other big companies and forces in the video game industry. Obviously influenced by Socialism (while ignoring its failures throughout history), what I refer to as the "Socializing of video games" is similarly built on the idea of everyone getting something, even if it's at a lower quality. Part of this idea is that everyone with every version of a game gets the "same experience", which is ridiculous. If tiers are to be believed, they show this ideology in effect. It would require a much larger article with far more research than is meant for this particular article, but one could probably find that characters were neatly placed in specific tiers through careful programming so that any player owning any version of the game could get the same (Socialized) experience. Again, this was just from a quick glance. More focus on the subject could probably unearth more. On the subject of characters, balance is not the only questionable thing about them. There are some minor inconsistencies that really make longtime fans wonder if Capcom's QA department is focused on anything more than "balance". Birdie had aviator glasses in SFA? When? True (Shin) Akuma in SFII with white hair? No. Street Fighter Alpha - Warriors Dreams, but there are obviously characters from Street Fighter Alpha 3? Mech Zangief was great to see, and there was even a mech version of Juri, but no Cyber Akuma! Why?! Even Shadow Lady (from Marvel VS Capcom) and Shadow (from Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter) were in the game, but no Cyber Akuma (from Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter)?! |

Don't get me wrong; Mech Zangief (Robo-Gief), Evil Ryu ("The Master"), Ryu's Evil Intent Incarnate ("Kage"), Shadow (Evil Charlie "Nash"), Shadow Lady (Evil Chun-Li), and Shin Akuma (Akuma with the cool white hair) are the best additions to Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, by far. They are the coolest, most stylish, nostalgic additions made to the game because they are from the absolutely incredible Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter (and its EX Edition, which I love). No Cyber Akuma (with cybernetic parts), though? It would have been easy to make with the flexibility of Unreal Engine 4. They could have easily put Mech Zangief's wings on Akuma (who they were on in the first place), put metal on his face (similar to Mech Juri), and made his existing sandals into higher, elevated Japanese sandals with metal texturing. Assets for the Rocket-Fist and Electric Special Moves already seem to be there. To hell with Akuma's boring costumes in SFV. Even just a Cyber Akuma costume would be better than all of them combined. |

And
the load times...what in the hell? Why? Why couldn't scenes be combined?
Two separate loading times, each of which take way too long? I find it hard
to believe that there wasn't a better way. The loading between matches in
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on PlayStation 4 reminds me of Street Fighter
Alpha - Warrior's Dreams on the first PlayStation, but so does the absolutely
killer sound. Memorable tracks from each SF title have been re-imagined
at the highest level of quality. In fact, they are as memorable now as the
originals! It's probably the best soundtrack Capcom has had in a long time.
The best music in the game is as follows:
