In an (now-defunct) Audience TV interview I saw before, an entertainer was asked what the secret to success was. The entertainer explained that he asked a more experienced, fellow entertainer the same question. What was the response? He explained that his friend explained that while he didn't know the key to success, he knew the key to failure, which was to try to please everyone. This is precisely the reason why contemporary Capcom falls on its face more than it should; because it's trying to please everyone, an the reason is because they are actually trying to please a small, abusive minority on social media who demand so-called "inclusion". Since DirecTV's acquisition by AT&T, the Audience TV channel was abruptly canceled like the awesome HDNet, and it's hard not to see the parallels with Capcom's canceled IPs. A prime example of this is how Capcom has gotten involved in the unsavory personal matters of one of their tournament players. Amidst domestic violence issues the player was settling in court, Capcom banned the player from joining their e-Sports tournaments. |

I'm not saying I agree with the player's actions, but I also don't know all of the facts (neither does anyone else). This was a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. I wasn't there. It is not for me to judge. The player had disclosed some information, but the bottom line is that this player's personal matters are their business. Not mine, not yours, not the scene's, and surely not the business of the company who makes a video game that he plays. Those things are a player's personal life. Capcom has no right to mediate or take a stance on anything. It's not their job. They were once known as "Capcom the Great Entertainer", not "Capcom the Great Mediator". Why is it that SFV (in all of its iterations) has been plagued by drama? Because Capcom has allowed it. Because Capcom's current marketing team are shills. They virtue-signal from high-horses, flying banners of virtues outlined by the hypocrisy of social media. Yes, these are marketing suits, but trust me when I say that my suits are better. |

Most unplayable boss characters from the previous game are still unplayable (from hologram Bison to his stacked Dolls), but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I was glad to see Capcom still keep some of the mystique of the old games while also adding other playable characters. New characters downloaded from the network in SFV (Balrog, Alex, Urien, Ibuki, Akuma, Zeku, Guile, Menat, Kolin, Abigail) had to be unlocked through point progression, but in SFVAE has those previously-locked, unbalanced characters are unlocked, balanced, and ready to go from the start. Of course, they were made available through download from the network, and if you unlocked them in the previous game, then you got to play them before. If you didn't get to play them before because you didn't have time to unlock them, they were made available in SFVAE. |
